Raus. Raus? Raus!

Displacement and Migration in the 19th century via the Ruhleben emigrant railway station

Between 1891 and 1914, over a million mostly Jewish migrants from Eastern Europe had to pass through the emigrant train station between Berlin and Spandau. The barracks on the station grounds became a symbol of fear – of disease and a perceived influx of foreigners – and the way migrants were handled. The exhibition thus explores questions that are as pressing today as they were over a hundred years ago.
